Sharon Fibelkorn Chapman, Photographer on the Side
- So if you're a photographer, Photoshop woos you with new tools and nifty things that you can accomplish with the software. It's a great program hands down. They offer a ton of training and assistance so ya got no gripe from me about the quality of the product.
- If you're the general public. Photoshop woos you with the idea that it's simply a plug and play sort of 'thing' and that not only can anyone do it ... but, really it's not that hard. You know ... really not that hard at all.
Being a 'glass is half full' sort o'gal ... I feel compelled to offer up my "Baking" comparison for all who will listen. That really pretty cake picture above is much like Photoshopping a photograph. There are layers. And with each layer comes a great deal of real work.
And so you all can sort of see the amount of labor that goes into using Photoshop as one tool of a Photographer's Toolkit ... here's the link to that simple, pretty cake. http://bakedbree.com/flag-cake
And I don't offer this to scold anyone ... more to educate. This is something that woke me up in the middle of the night. Okay, that and my husband thinks it would just be so simple to use Photoshop for a project he's got going. Has he ever used Photoshop; no. Does he think it'll be hard to learn/use; no. Does he think I'm going to teach him; he'd better not.
So the next time you see a really lovely image and you suspect there's photoshop work in it, think about that image as having been 'baked with a ton of time and loving care' by a photographer who loves his or her work and wants that image to be the very best it can be.
As always, thanks for listening.
